what did they wear?
The Vikings wore clothes
made from coarse cloth made from wool. They were skilful weavers and were also
able to produce finer fabrics although these would have been more expensive.
Women, with the help of children, made the wool into yarn and used natural dyes
from plants to give it colour. In winter, the Vikings hunted and killed animals
and used the animal furs to keep warm. The animal skins were also hung and
stretched out to dry for making leather. Viking shoes and boots were made from
leather or goat skin. The shoes and boots were laced or tied with strips
of leather thong. The Vikings also wore belts to carry a leather purse or a
knife. Viking craftsmen made beautiful objects and jewellery out of metal and
wood. Elaborate brooches were made to fasten clothes and cloaks
